From Knowing to Experiencing
by Nicholas de Castella
This is an outline of the teaching I shared at our Monthly Breathwork graduates Mentoring session… Head vs
Heart: Two Realities We Live In
We all live in two worlds — the world of the head and the world of the heart.
The head world is filled with thoughts, labels, and concepts. It’s the place where we analyse, judge, and interpret life — where we say, “This day is good” or “That was bad.”
But beneath that, there’s another world — the heart world, the world of direct experience. This is where we feel, sense, and allow. It’s where life unfolds moment by moment, without labels or explanations.
In the Buddhist tradition, these are called conventional reality (the world of form and thought) and ultimate reality (the world of emptiness, unity, and pure awareness).
From the head, we see separation: You and me, here and there, this and that.
From the heart, we experience oneness: All is life, unfolding perfectly now. Moving Beyond Concepts into Experience
In meditation — and in life — many of us get caught trying to “do it right.” We use techniques, count breaths, follow instructions. That’s helpful at first, but there comes a point where we are invited to let all of that go.
When we let go of the doing, we open to being.
When we stop trying to understand the experience, we start feeling it.
Words and concepts can only ever describe a drop of what life truly is — like trying to put the ocean in a bucket. The real invitation is to go beyond thinking about life, and to experience life directly.
When we shift from the head to the heart, we move from knowing to being.
The Ego, Control, and Trusting Life
Our ego lives in separation — constantly strategising, controlling, and managing because it doesn’t trust the basic goodness of life. It believes, “If I don’t control things, I won’t survive.”
But the deeper truth is this: you are being loved and lived by life.
In every breath, in every heartbeat, life is expressing itself through you, perfectly.
When we surrender the illusion of control, we discover the effortless flow of creation moving through us.
In meditation, that looks like relaxing into the experience, letting thoughts arise and dissolve, and trusting that all is well.
As I often affirm in those moments of surrender:
“I relax, let go, release, and surrender. All is well.” From Separation to Unity
Everything shared in our mentoring sessions — every question, story, and insight — is part of creation unfolding.
From the heart’s perspective, nothing is separate. Every word spoken and every emotion felt is life revealing itself to us, through us.
And that’s what these gatherings are really about — staying connected, grounded, and heart-centered in a world that often pulls us into fear, disconnection, and busyness. Unknowing: Having the Experience
I then led a guided a liberating, deep connection into formless being, beyond knowing.
(There is a link to the recording below) Closing Reflections
As we finished the Mentoring Session, we took a moment to share a one-word check-out — grateful, relaxed, peaceful, connected.
For me, those words capture what heart-centered community is all about: coming home to ourselves, together.
We ended, as always, with a feeling of deep appreciation.
So take a breath, soften your heart, and remember…
You are being loved and lived by life — in this very moment.
Trust it. Feel it. Be it.
Enough Talking — Let’s Drop In
I could talk more, but that would just be more information. This is like teeing up the golf ball. Let’s hit it — with no judgment, no concept, no need to know where we’re going. Let’s go and see what happens…
